george

i thought i was there because of a party, but rigging equipment was everywhere and so many people were talking logistics of the upcoming shoot that it was quickly apparent it was only work couched in mild socializing, bottom shelf booze and crappy hors devours. the grounds and mansion were huge. at first it was difficult to find anyone because it was so crowded, but soon enough familiar faces popped up and i made small talk as i moved through the crowd and mapped out my route and quick exit. i spotted a woman i loathed and narrowly avoided being the audience for another of her chronic brain killing, depressive monologues when i managed to duck out of sight and move on before she caught sight of me. just then someone caught my sleeve and said, 'george is here.' 'you're kidding' i said, 'where?' he pointed up some stairs and i made a beeline. i entered the kitchen and saw george surrounded (as usual...) by a laughing knot of people as he told another of his stories. i just waited quietly and enjoyed his beautiful energy and thought about how he made everyone feel they mattered. after he delivered his punchline, waldo grinned, tugged his sleeve and said, 'look who's here'. george turned to me and said 'shandra!'. we shared a bear hug and just laughed. he said, 'why, what...where have you been?'. i answered, 'dude, you have a buffer zone'. 'oh yeah, that.' he said and laughed. we then exchanged numbers, laughed some more and waldo asked me to scratch his back before i took off.

as i drove down the mountain, i turned my music up loud and felt all the happy.

Ok; I'm starting to worry you may be contagious. I rarely remember my dreams, as you know- and so far as I know I've almost NEVER had one with a celebrity in it. But- last week- Gwyneth Paltrow showed up. Ever worked with her? Worked with George? I was surprised to see Gwyneth; she's not someone I fantasize about while awake. (that might be Renée Zellweger...) :-)

ha! fantastic! (and thanks btw!)

also, never worked with gwyneth ( i TOTALLY wanted to spell her name entirely in consonants...) but george? yes, several times. i could go on and on about how amazing he is but let's just say that i was 'clooney-ized' and totally fell in love with him just like everybody else!

"Charisma" has so far eluded scientific analysis, so far as I know; but boy is it real. Apart from meeting "Pancho", from "The Cisco Kid", when I was in 3rd grade, my show celebrity experience is limited to sitting in the front row for a Judy Collins concert, in college. Yup, I was totally in love and ready to marry her, about half way through. :-)

at a screening one of the actresses who'd been working with george finally got a chance to introduce her husband to him. as they were walking away, her husband looked in awe at his hand (edit; the paw he shook hands with...) and said of george, 'man, that guy is incredible- every time he smiles at you you wanna give him 5 bucks!' :)

Wow, that may be the best working definition of charisma I've run into! Pretty sure I'll use it; and will let folks know where I got it. I'll pass one back- I've hung out with a lot of politicians, where charisma is also paramount (humor) . Once after I had testified for the New York state Assembly, my host Assemblyman said to me: "You're really effective; your come through as so sincere. (pause) Sincerity is everything. If you can fake that; you've got it made." Delivered deadpan. Pretty sure he knew what he was saying, though.
